Alamein FC has confirmed that their home ground of Dorothy Laver West Reserve will be boosted by a $1 million Sportsground Improvement allocation from the City of Boroondara.
After a meeting of the board and a combined push from representatives of Alamein, the City of Boroondara will allocate their funds in line with the current 2023/24 financial year.
There are plans for the budgeted expenditure to work on reconstructing the playing surface and improving the drainage on the club’s two pitches, with a timely addition for one of the original NPLW all-women’s football club in Victoria.
Boroondara Council’s goal is to focus on the ‘preserve and increase green spaces’ strategic initiative – one that will greatly increase the pitch quality of Dorothy Laver West Reserve compared to its current standing.
“There have been many discussions in the lead up to this outcome, and it’s very exciting to have received budget sign-off,” Alamein FC President Kathy Stamatopoulos said via media release.
“We thank and look forward to collaborating with the Boroondara Council. 2024 promises to be a massive year for our all-women’s football club as we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, look to grow our Club with an expanded Juniors program, and now a first-rate playing surface for all our teams and visiting clubs to enjoy.”
The Club is yet to finalise when the project will start along with its associated timeline, but will provide an update when it becomes available.
