Gresford Vacy FC have received $370,000 from the NSW state government, as a part of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
The grant will be used by the club to fund a significant project at the Gresford Sporting Complex.
The complex is the club’s home, with the facility upgrade being a $650,000 project which will renovate existing buildings and will feature a new canteen, toilets and introduce female friendly changerooms, amongst other things.
Gresford Vacy FC committee member Kris Doyle believes the upgrades were necessary and will secure the future of the club as a strong organisation that represents football appropriately in the Hunter Valley.
“We’re very lucky that we’ve got two excellent playing grounds at Vacy and Gresford,” Doyle said.
“But the actual changeroom facilities are well below par.
“With our large number of players and also our high participation rate of females the changerooms simple weren’t up to standard.”
Gresford Vacy FC represent the Vacy, Gresford and Paterson communities in the Hunter Valley, with more than 250 players on the club’s books.
Doyle stated the improved facility would be an extremely important asset for the community, once the project is complete.
“It is going to be a massive thing for the community,” Doyle said.
“The sporting ground is also used by the local cricket team, the Gresford Colts, and it is used by the three local schools.
“And throughout the year we also hold gala days that bring in kids from an even bigger area around the Dungog Shire.”
The club continues to work on securing the remaining required funding for the rest of the planned project.
Gresford Vacy FC achieved 5-stars as a club in the FFA’s National Club Development Program, which was officially recognised earlier this week.
